A Company Founded Under a Lucky Star

We founded our flower shop in the summer of 2002. With a team of three, consisting of Harald Purkarthofer, Christian Hofmann, and Martina Einzenberger, we opened our first store in Schönaugasse. flowerpower was to be the name of our company – a name that truly stood under “lucky stars”. Shortly before our opening, we called the Ö3-Sternstunden (Ö3 Star Hours) and asked star astrologer Gerda Rogers for a forecast regarding our plans. She endorsed both the founding of the company and the choice of name – after all, flowers and power as flowerpower would create an innovative and dynamic mix, as it suits our team and our visions.

 

Above all, our team was innovative and dynamic. Christian, a trained gardener and florist and a business specialist for applied computer science from Upper Austria, worked for a software company for some time after years of floristry and was often on the road. After a few years, he decided to make a professional change back to his original activity, which puts a smile on people’s faces – that is, to floristry and event organization. Harald, born in Eastern Styria, had completed business training and worked in a management consultancy. He gradually discovered his passion for flowers, decoration and creative design over the years. So he initially started making decorations for various events in his spare time until he finally decided to found a flower shop. Martina, a business specialist for applied computer science from Vienna, was, like Christian, employed in a software company before deciding to start her own business and co-manage flowerpower.

 

Together, we began to work for flowerpower with a lot of energy and creativity – and innovation blossomed in our work, rooted in traditional craftsmanship.

Into the Future with Creativity

Since 2002, our flowerpower has continued to develop from year to year. After Martina left the company after the first year, the two of us put a lot of energy and drive into the future visions of flowerpower. “The focus is on the customer with their wishes,” is one of our most important guiding principles. For this reason, we decided to tie bouquets in front of the customers and taking into account their individual wishes. During this time, we also started training the first apprentices.

 

In 2004, we entered into a cooperation with the international delivery service Fleurop Interflora, laying the foundation for the professional delivery service within Graz. A short time later, we also entered into a cooperation with the Flower Label Program (FLP). This groundbreaking cooperation was unique at the time. We were the first flower shop in Styria to actively promote fair ecological and humanitarian conditions in flower cultivation and trade for flowers from Ecuador and Kenya with this quality seal. In principle, we buy regional cut flowers from Graz or Austrian nurseries whenever possible in order to protect the environment, promote local businesses and guarantee the highest quality.

Origin of our stores

After our first store in Schönaugasse became increasingly well-known and frequented, we opened a second store in Gleisdorf in 2008 and a third store at Hasnerplatz Graz in 2010. However, we closed the Gleisdorf store after a few years in order to concentrate entirely on the Graz area and to specifically expand our range of services here. Today, at our two flowerpower locations, Schönaugasse 5 and Hasnerplatz Kiosk, we offer a comprehensive range of services consisting of street sales, interior greening, wedding, funeral and event floristry.
