Bloom 52 – Dr. Christian Berg Botanical Garden Graz

What do a Botanical Garden Graz, Styrian wine culture, and regional apple cultivation have in common? The answer was given by our Bloom 52-Recipient of the Week: Dr. Christian Berg, scientific garden director of the magnificently blooming institution founded in 1811 by Archduke Johann. “Archduke Johann really got Styrian wine and apple growing going when he donated seeds and plants from the Botanical Garden to the farmers,” says the botanist. Today, the botanical garden comprises over 7,400 plant species from all over the world. “That’s twice as many as are native to Austria.” This weekend (April 22nd and 23rd, 2017) the famous plant rarities market will take place here for the 11th time. Flowerpower is definitely there and is looking forward to this exciting insight into the world of plants!:)
