So what’s actually behind Valentine’s Day?
For us, Valentine’s Day means rolling up our sleeves and being ready to make sure no heart is without love or appreciation on February 14th. Of course, creativity and the joy of working with flowers and plants are not neglected.
For many, we also get to follow in “Amor’s” footsteps and personally deliver love greetings, which you can order from us in the webshop. In addition, we are of course there for our customers around Valentine’s Day with special opening hours.
But what else is behind Valentine’s Day?
On the one hand, there is the tradition of Saint Valentine of Rome, who christened couples of different status, despite the ban, and was therefore executed on February 14, 269. In addition, Valentin gave the newlyweds flowers from his garden. So the perfect reason to give your loved one flowers on Valentine’s Day.
- Or you could think about the approximately 200 million roses that are produced every year for Valentine’s Day alone. Ours come from Gartenbau Wallner in Graz, just in time for February 14th.
- Around the world, about 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent every year. Surely some from Herzenskunst, our dear Stephanie Wobornik, an artist from Salzburg, who designed the cards with a lot of love.
- Do you live in Japan and are you a girl? Well, sorry, bad luck. Because in Japan, girls don’t get anything on the day of love. The custom is that women give men chocolate as a gift for Valentine’s Day.
- In Italy, it is probably more the day of the locksmiths, because love couples come here very romantically but without flowers. On Valentine’s Day, love locks are hung on bridges and the keys are thrown into the water with a wish.
For us, it is still a beautiful, flowery day. Traditionally, flowers or plants are given to all the people who are close to your heart, whether loved or friendly, to express your feelings.
